Road Closures on 07/14/12:
From 5:00am - 7:15am, the road from the Markleeville Courthouse to the junction of Highways 89 & 4 will be closed to traffic. State Route 89 over Monitor Pass, from the junction of U.S. Highway 395 to the junction of State Route 89/4 will be closed to all traffic, except for emergency, law enforcement and support vehicles from 5:00am - 12:00pm. State Route 4 over Ebbetts Pass, will be closed to all traffic, except for emergency, law enforcement and support vehicles from 5:00am - 3:00pm. These closures are for the safety of the riders. Please plan alternate routes if you are arriving the morning of the ride.
Parking:
Look for our parking crew to assist you. Parking is located on Highway 89 and on Airport Road across from the entrance of Turtle Rock Park. Limited parking will be available at Turtle Rock Park burn pile area on a first come, first serve basis. Illegally parked cars will be ticketed and may be towed. Please park completely off of the pavement and do not block any of the road while unloading. We encourage riders to carpool whenever possible. RV parking will be permitted in signed area on Highway 89.
Camping & Campfires:
Camping is available at a variety of campgrounds in Alpine County. USFS campgrounds and Turtle Rock Park are on a first come first, serve basis. Grover Hot Springs State Park does take reservations. Camping is prohibited outside your vehicle along state and county roads and highways - you could be cited. For further camping information visit www.AlpineCounty.com.If you are disperse camping during the 2012 Death Ride® - campfires in unimproved areas are prohibited during the summer months in Alpine County. Authorities will be patrolling the camping and parking areas along the course and if you have an unauthorized campfire, you will be cited and fined. You will be putting yourself and others at risk. Please adhere to the USFS posted fire safety rules in Alpine County. Campfire permits for designated campgrounds available at the Visitors Center in Markleeville.
